After an interesting chat in #emacs, Linkd (pronounced "linked") was
conceived. I came up with the name, which is a first for me. It will
basically cover everything you can think of with respect to links and
anchors. It will visualize them, implicitly create them, give them
context, and resolve them into more basic components (example: custom
link protocol resolves to an http:// URI) if possible.
I am beginning to realize that different things motivate different hackers. I don't seem to be someone who comes up with new and cool ideas that don't have an associated problem. I see myself as more the stodgy maintainer type who worries first about compatibility and fixing existing problems rather than seeding many new projects. And I'm OK with that — the community needs both types (and not exclusively those types).
I've been reflecting on my time as a maintainer, and am thinking of writing some advice and perspective in the near future.
