Halo 2 and Playstation 2 purchase

I purchased a Playstation 2 package yesterday on eBay for around $162 (shipping and handling included in that total). It comes with 4 controllers, 2 of which are special Airflow variants or something of that nature, the Test Drive game, 3 demo discs, and some sort of internet hub, presumably for online gaming. Today I followed up by buying 4 games for it:

All of these games were under $18, and most of them were cheaper. Compare this to my first game purchases for the Gamecube, where two games cost me around $100. I will definitely look into the possibility of getting Playstation Linux working. Without having to mod the hardware at all. XBOX users, eat your heart out. Best of all, to my knowledge, not a single dollar of these purchases goes to Micro$oft.

The occasion for purchasing these games came when Jamie, the sole Mathematics major from French class, mentioned to me that he would like to get Halo 2 sometime in the near future. I said, Hey, why not drive somewhere and pick it up? He did not have any classes to attend, and I decided to skip out on my CS class since it would just be post-test griping, since the test was once again unnecessarily difficult.

So we went to Walmart first. They did not have Halo 2 in stock. They did, however, have a nice selection of games for my Playstation. I purchased the three games that are not Final Fantasy X there. Since I somehow managed to misplace my watch within the past week, I purchased a replacement Timex watch that had the exact same features. This one has a better wrist strap. Going Velcro last time was a bad idea due to the fibers getting pulled off, baring the fabric.

I noticed that there was a place called Game Spot next to Walmart, so we tried it out. Sure enough, they had Halo 2, even the limited edition version that Jamie longed for. They also had Final Fantasy X there, which completed my repertoire of purchases for the day. They people at the cash register were very friendly and recounted their experiences of playing Final Fantasy X and similar titles. They knew of Chrono Trigger, but seemed surprised that I was jumping from Chrono Trigger to Final Fantasy X. I suspect that they would probably recommend for me to try some of the older Final Fantasy variants first. All in good time.

I invited myself over to Jamie's place to try out Halo 2 in cooperative mode. It was great fun. I played about 7 straight hours, forgetting about the PLUG meeting that took place. I enjoyed the light swords in particular. Being able to lunge suddenly at the enemy (with faster than normal speed), wielding a large light-saw, has great appeal. It is especially potent against those unpleasant fiends, the Flood. By midnight, we were stuck in a gulch somewhere on the ring, playing as Covenant forces. Jamie said that the higher powers want visitors out of the room by midnight (or something to that effect), so I left.
