I have written an essay which is available at Website::MisuseOfPrayer, which is in response to a blogged response to an IRC conversation.

I think if I ever make my own sect, the only parts from the Christian bible that would be part of the Essential Writ would be the beatitudes from Matthew, the chapter on love from 1 Corinthians, and perhaps Ecclesiastes. If I wanted to build a cult rather than a sect, I suppose a modernized and to-the-point version of Song of Solomon would be included. The rest would be some nice stories and (counter-)examples that illustrate a well-lived life. However, doing so would definitely not be a good use of my time, so I shall refrain.
